##Tracing
Tracings of leaves collected at every tenth step
2022
Conard Environmental Research Area, Kellogg, Iowa
Each of these layered tracings was completed after the collection of sets of leaves from Grinnell College’s Conard Environmental Research Area (CERA). Leaves were gathered randomly at each tenth step as I walked along the forested trails of this restored natural space. Each drawing, and each set of leaves, represents a single tree species. Therefore, the deepened values within each work, generated by repetition and the density of uniform contour lines, communicate tendencies of size and shape through what gradually becomes a sort of visual average.
